LA competes with α-linolenic acid (ALA, 18:3 ω-3) for Δ6-desaturase, and finally thereby inhibits formation of anti-inflammatory EPA (20:5 ω-3). But if you drink directly from the EPA, which means that it is necessary to balance my ALA and LA EPA from Δ6-desaturase dont want to become DHA.

Arachidonic acid is inflammatory. Arachidonic acid can be synthesized form acids linoleic and self ALA has beneficial effects. Although arachidonic acid can be synthesized from vegetable oils, is available in meat, eggs, dairy products and fish so they are more inflammatory exept for the fish that has even more omega-3 fatty acids than omega-6.
