Is it bad to take supplements of Omega 3, if you have high cholesterol?

I have moderately high cholesterol and was told my doctor to improve that with diet and exercise. In an effort to be healthier and cut harmful foods in my diet, I have been reading many books and searching for recipes for healthy meals. Also of a healthy diet, I'm reading about how beneficial omega-3s are fats. I would like to add this supplement to my diet, but I worry that I might do more harm than good if I have high cholesterol. Could you take the supplement that my place bad cholesterol? Or would it only affect my cholesterol level? Does anyone know of this?

The efficacy of omega-3 fatty acids on triglycerides is dependent on the dose, which means that the more acidic omega-3 fatty acids intake, the lower your triglyceride level fall. This works best when following a healthy diet. The omega-3 fatty acids appear to affect More recently ingested triglycerides. In addition, people with extremely high triglyceride levels (greater than 500 mg / dL) seem to derive maximum benefit supplementation with omega 3-fatty acids. Although it can reduce triglyceride levels, it may slightly raise low-density lipoproteins (also known as LDL or "bad"). This change, however, is modest and ranges from 3 to 10 percent. High density lipoprotein (also known as HDL or "Good cholesterol") do not seem to be affected by supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids, if not slightly increased. Note: I read in other sources the quality of Omega 3 to issues of buying from a reliable source that do not end with a contaminated product.
