Omega-3 for 4 years?

I've heard omega-3 supplements are good for children: it can prevent type 1 diabetes and help calm hyperactive children. Is it safe to give a 4 old rich in omega-3 pill dose children (crushed up, not all)? Do any of you give your kids omega-3? If so, why and will it help? Great, thanks!
