A herbal alternative to prescription mood stabilizers antidepressants?
I've heard that omega 3 fatty acid found in the oil fish helps fight depression. Does anyone know of any other herbal / natural alternatives to prescription drugs that can help balance my moods / promote good humor? Anything to combat bipolar disorder? (I've been on prescription drugs before and have decided that I do not like. I fell victum a drug that blocks the amino acids that help store memory in the brain.) Please help, any knowledge will be useful.
I do not know what acid acids, but recently I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Lamictal and as I started really. However, I tried St. John's Wort, which worked better than my anti-depressants (At least for me), but did not want to do anything to the hobby. And not necessarily work for you, even if it worked for me. Each person is different. And, of San John Grass thins the blood which can be dangerous for some people. Be very careful with alternative medicine. You can talk to a herbalist and get their input. Up Chances are you best show with a prescription medication Talk to your doctor about your concerns with medications. If one is not right, you can always have another test. You have to get the right "recipe" so to speak. It can be a pain to get there, but once the right combination of drugs for their symptoms, the better you feel. I spoke with mine on mood stabilizers. I told them that if any of them cause weight gain do not bother writing me a script for them because they accept them. It was then that I heard of Lamictal. Do not just go without medication. It is not fair to the people around him, nor is it fair that you have to continue dealing with mood swings and erratic behavior. Good luck!

The Omega-3 Connection: How You Can Restore Your Body’s Natural Balance and Treat Depression $16.51 Ground-breaking research provides an exciting new approach to treating the most common mental problem in America — depression. For years, scientists have searched for a magic bullet to relieve the pain and trauma of mood disorders — one safe enough for nursing mothers, children with ADD, and the elderly, and one uncomplicated by the toxicity and invasive side effects associated with mood regulators like Prozac, Zoloft, and lithium. Thanks to Harvard’s Andrew Stoll, the search may finally be over. Stoll found that Omega-3 acids, already known for their importance in preventing heart disease and cancer, play a crucial role in mental health — regulating and enhancing mood, sharpening memory, and even aiding concentration and learning. This substance, so essential to our health, is found abundantly in fish and flax oils and occurs naturally in humans, but is often depleted by our Western diet and lifestyle. In has revolutionary program, Stoll presents readers with all the tools for restoring their natural balance of Omega-3 — including the foods to eat and how to choose the most effective over-the-counter supplements. Featuring information on how to integrate flaxseed and fish oil into diet and medication plans, simple recipes, supplement doses and sources, The Omega-3 Connection offers an entirely new, practical method for improving mental health. |
