Omega Xl – Venture Investment Fund to improve the prospects of two South Florida companies
Two companies in South Florida are the first recipients of funding creation of a new Orlando-based venture capital fund with a maximum of $ 450 million in loans in Florida.
Businesses – Great HealthWorks and the Association Financial Services – will receive "significant" loans to help grow Florida Mezzanine Fund partner Seth Ellis said in a launch event on Thursday Hollywood.
Based in Hollywood Great HealthWorks manufactures and distributes a product called anti-inflammatory Omega XL, which is derived from petroleum that is found in the mussel New Zealand green. And Miami-based Association Financial Services provides a range of financial services to condominium and homeowner associations.
Great HealthWorks plans to hire 200 new employees at the end of the year and is the boot that effort with a job fair this weekend at 4150 SW 28th Way to cover 30 to 50 positions, CEO and founder Ken Meares said.
The jobs, some of which wages are paid $ 14 to $ 18 per hour, are mainly found in customer service, accounting and storage.
While the exact loan amounts were not disclosed, Florida has partnered with Mezzanine Partners CapitalSouth of Charlotte, North Carolina, to provide the enterprise funds, which can range from $ 500,000 to $ 30 million in debt financing for each investment, Ellis said.
The mezzanine loans are typically for periods of five years and payments of interest only until the third year, when payments capital can kick in. The lender also ensures that normally can be held by an equity stake in the company or sold back when the loan is refunded.
Since its founding in 1998, CapitalSouth has invested nearly $ 45 million small businesses in Florida, President and Chief Executive Jose Alala III said.
Great HealthWorks moved their operations to 9,000 square feet of offices in Coral Springs in January after it outgrew the space, Meares said.
He is now in two buildings totaling 48,000 square feet of office space and warehouse.
"It would not be able to grow without Mezzanine Florida, "said Meares.
The new funding will enable the company to complete upgrades to the new facilities, hire more staff and expand the marketing of Omega XL , which Meares, 65, called a "one-of-a-kind product .
"We want to inform the masses," said Meares.
According to the website of the product, Omega XL, which is sold in capsule form capsule contains a mixture of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can help relieve the swelling, stiffness and pain caused by diseases such as arthritis and asthma.

Omega XL is a drug or medicine, and does not require the approval of the Food and Drug Administration, but adheres to the FDA requirements for nutraceutical products, according to the product page.
It is sold online through television infomercials and doctors, Meares said.
With new funding from the Association of Financial Services has been able to hire five new employees and expand its operations to Tampa, CFO Alexander Moskovitz said Thursday during the launch.
Mezzanine Florida said plans to consider up to 200 Florida companies for funding in its first year.
